Longtime Pittsburgh TV Weather Forecaster Loses Job

PITTSBURGH, PA — A veteran meteorologist with more than three decades of TV experience is out of a job.

Jeff Verszyla announced on Thursday that has has been let go from WTAE, where he has worked as a weekday and weekend forecaster since 2020.

"No easy way to say it, so I’ll just get straight to the point," Verszyla said in a social media post late Thursday.

"At 4:30 p.m. today, I was informed that my contract with WTAE is not being renewed, Unbeknownst to me at the time, the noon broadcast today was my last. I will no longer be seen giving you my trusted forecast on WTAE.

"I will talk to you more in the days ahead…stay tuned Sincere thanks to all for your love and support."

Before joining WTAE, Verszyla worked at KDKA-TV for 23 years before being let go in 2018.

Verszyla holds a degree in broadcast communications and English from Allegheny College and a meteorology degree from Mississippi State. Before joining KDKA, he worked for a TV station in Texas and was an on-air personality and morning show producer at WVTY-FM and WRRK-FM in Pittsburgh.

Verszyla is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association and the International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists. He also has been a trained weather spotter for the Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service.
