Meijer Advances Plans For 2nd Pittsburgh-Area Store

BUTLER COUNTY, PA — As plans progress for a Meijer store in Cranberry, the superstore retailer has closed on property for a second location in Butler County.

The Michigan-based company confirmed to The Cranberry Eagle that it recently acquired the site for a Meijer Store in Jackson's Pointe Commerce Park off of Route 19 in the township.

It's unclear when construction of the store will begin or when it will open.

Meanwhile, Meijer is moving ahead with plans to open its first Pittsburgh-area location in Cranberry. It will be located in Henderson Crossing , a 44.5-acre mixed-use development along Route 228 between Franklin Road and North Catholic High School.

The development will include the 159,000-square foot Meijer superstore, a Meijer Express gas station and a drive-thru pharmacy.

Earlier this month, Cranberry supervisors approved a liquor license for the store.

A Forbes profile of the chain states that Meijer is a family-owned grocery chain operating in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Its supercenter stores offer groceries but also have departments such as fashion, automotive, home decor, health and beauty care, pharmacy, electronics and banking.
