New Measles Cases Reported Around Pittsburgh; Cases On Rise In PA
Here are the latest measle case statistics for Pennsylvania and in and around the Pittsburgh area.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Westmoreland County has reported its first case of measles, according to the latest Pennsylvania Department of Health statistics.
Additionally, Butler County recorded its initial case this week. That news came Tuesday, the same day the Department of Health announced that two people from Lancaster County have died from the virus. Those were the first two measles deaths in Pennsylvania in 35 years.
Last week, for the first time since 2019, a person tested positive for measles in Allegheny County. The unidentified person was an unvaccinated patient at UPMC Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville who is not a county resident.

In Western Pennsylvania, Indiana County has reported eight cases.
Statewide, 424 cases have been reported, with 94 new ones being diagnosed within the past week. No fully vaccinated person has been diagnosed with the virus.
