Parkway East Commercial Street Bridge Imploded
After a delay, the Commercial Street bridge on the Parkway East came tumbling down on Thursday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — After being unable to complete the task as originally scheduled for Wednesday, PennDOT imploded the Parkway East's Commercial Street Bridge on Thursday morning.
The bridge came crashing down into Frick Park shortly after 8 a.m.
The bridge was supposed to be imploded on Wednesday. But PennDOT workers ran out of daylight and could not finish the final preparations for the razing.

People can view the cleanup effort on the Commercial Street Bridge webpage or the specialized 511PA webpage at https://www.511pa.com/map/page/CommercialStBridge. The camera will run live through the completion of the $95 million project.
The bridge, a key section of the parkway between the eastern end of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale exit, closed on July 10 so that it could be razed and its replacement span that was built next to the bridge could be slid into place.

The $95 million project, which will last at last until Aug. 3, has resulted in lengthy detours for 100,000 motorists daily.
