Families are invited to stop by the library between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to help us kick-off our Summer Reading Challenge!
Learn what excitement lies ahead for children at the library this summer, enjoy some snacks, grab a free sticker, preview our Summer Reading Challenge prize choices, pick up a Summer Reading Log or an Early Literacy Activity Sheet, and participate in some fun activities!
We'll give you a punch card, and if you complete at least 4 activities, you'll earn a prize!
<ul><li>Add to a sticker mosaic poster</li><li>Complete a scavenger hunt</li><li>Take a break in a cozy reading corner</li><li>Snap a picture in our photo "booth"</li><li>See how many items you can find in our I Spy bin</li><li>Follow a dinosaur footprint path</li><li>Decorate our sidewalks with chalk</li><li>Check out some books</li></ul>
Activities, snacks, and prizes paid for by the Friends of the William Jeanes Library.
To help us prepare adequate supplies, registration is requested.

Teens in grades 6-12 invited to the Board Room for a weekly activity, conversation and snacks!
No need to register; just stop by between 6-7:30. You can join in the activity or use this time to catch up with old friends or make new ones.
This week we will be making beaded plants.

Registered therapy dogs and their volunteer owners visit the Library to spend time one-on-one with participants.&nbsp;Space is limited and registration is required.
School-age children can practice reading with one of the dogs, if they wish. Why read to dogs? Most children have a natural affinity for and bond with dogs, and because dogs are non-judgmental, children are less self-conscious while reading aloud to them. Children can improve their reading skills in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, while enhancing self-esteem, motivating speech, and building confidence. Reading to a therapy dog can decrease stress and anxiety in general, and specifically while reading aloud in front of other human listeners! If children associate reading with struggle, worry, or embarrassment, this is a chance to create new and pleasant associations with reading instead!

Plein Air Exhibition on Display at Wayne Art Center!

Discover how sewing shaped American life before ready-to-wear fashion.&nbsp;Based on the DAR Museum’s 2024 exhibition, this program examines the way in which American women (and men) from the 18th and 19th centuries learned and deployed their sewing skills to furnish their households, earn livings, and express themselves, with contemporary examples of the themes explored.&nbsp;Select garments will be highlighted during the program to show different ways the nation’s birthdays have been celebrated.
Presented by Liz Bauer, a volunteer docent of the DAR Museum in Washington, D.C.&nbsp;She lives in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia with her husband and two young sons. Liz also volunteers as a garden educator at a local arboretum. As a&nbsp;sewing&nbsp;enthusiast, she is always interested in learning new&nbsp;sewing&nbsp;skills and techniques. &nbsp;

The William Jeanes Library’s Youth Advisory Board is a group of teens in grades 6-12 who create, plan, and host events at the library. They also participate in community service projects and help advise the library on a number of teen-related topics. Each month they have anywhere from 1-3 events, including, teen, children, and family programs.
No invitation is required to become a member of the YAB, just drop in and see what it’s all about!
Monthly meetings are held on the first Friday of the month (unless it falls on a holiday).
