20-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Pottstown Bedroom: DA

A homicide investigation is underway. Authorities said they believe the victim knew his killer.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A homicide investigation is underway in Pottstown after a man was shot and killed Wednesday night, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced late Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 9:46 p.m. Wednesday at home on the 400 block of West Street.

Xavier Jeffers, 20, a Pottstown resident, was found dead from a gunshot wound in an upstairs bedroom, police said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates Jeffers was shot by someone he knew, and the circumstances are under investigation," the DA's office said in a statement. "It appears there is no danger to the public."

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy on Saturday morning.

A GoFundMe launched to support his family and memorial costs had raised more than $5,000 as of late Thursday night. Family said they were reeling from the loss.

"He loved spending time with his friends, watching anime, and collecting Pokémon," his mother, Tara Bumbarger, shared in the fundraiser. "He was also a wonderful uncle who adored his niece and nephew, always making them smile with his playful spirit and kindness."
