Russell Brodie has spent the past 25 years developing miniature oil paintings in response to the communities lives in and travels to, extolling their quiet charms. Brodie seems to both hunt for and stumble upon precious moments where the rhythms of sunlight revel aspects of our environments often overlooked. His compositions go even further into the nuisances of light and shadow, as well as details and expanses when the artist crops well-balanced segments of these views. The patience and skill these small works of large scale spaces and buildings are a marvel to inspect. The attention to detail is impressive, the palette comfortable, the compositions flirt with the abstract, the imagery familiar but now appreciated once more, all in the cup of ones in hands.
