Pottstown Hospital Gets 'C' Grade For Patient Safety

POTTSTOWN, PA — Pottstown Hospital has received the below average grade of "C" for patient safety in the latest edition of the Leapfrog Groups hospital grades.

Another local Tower Health-owned hospital, Phoenixville Hospital, also received a "C" grade.

Pottstown ranked poorly in safety categories including c. diff infection, infection in the urinary tract, sepsis infection after surgery, kidney injury after surgery, blood leakage, communications about discharge and medicines, communication with doctors, and a category called "effective leadership to prevent errors."

"Errors are much more common if hospital leaders don’t make patient safety a priority," Leapfrog notes. "Leaders must make sure that all hospital staff knows what they need to work on and that they are held accountable for improvements. The hospital should also budget money towards improving safety."

Patch has reached out to Tower Health for comment on the rankings.

Phoenixville and Pottstown were among 35 "C" hospitals in the state. There were 51 A hospitals, 34 B hospitals, and one D facility Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

Pennsylvania as a whole fell from 8th to 13th in the nation since the last rankings came out in the fall.
