"By the grace and protection of God, Shirley was unharmed," family friend Catherine Zuniga wrote in a GoFundMe for the family.
But the damage was done.
"The devastation has left them facing the difficult reality of home displacement, with many days, weeks, and months ahead as they work through structural restoration and repair," Zuniga added.
The family needs temporary housing, food, and funds to help cover the cost of repairs.
A little more than $1,000 had been raised as of Wednesday afternoon, from 7 donors.
