Radnor-Area High Schoolers Nominated To US Service Academies
These local students have been nominated for appointment to the United States Naval, Merchant Marine, Air Force, and Military academies.
RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — Six Radnor-area high school students have been named nominees for appointment to the United States service academies for the Class of 2030 by Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-5th District).
Scanlon honored these six and 17 other local students, along with their families, at a recognition ceremony on Feb. 15 at her district office in Chester.
- Connor Haines, Radnor High School — United States Air Force Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy
- Bryce Furey, Radnor High School — United States Merchant Marine Academy
- Margaret Wetzel, Radnor High School — United States Naval Academy
- Margaretta Potten, Archbishop John Carroll High School — United States Naval Academy
- Ignatius Barry, Valley Forge Military Academy — United States Merchant Marine Academy
- Andrew Tuturice Jr., Valley Forge Military Academy — United States Military Academy
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

"I was honored to celebrate these accomplished young men and women of the Class of 2030 and their commitment to serving our country," Scanlon said. "Our youth are the future of our country, and I am confident that my young constituents will flourish as future leaders. I commend them on their nominations and look forward to their journeys should they elect to attend one of the service academies."
Candidates were interviewed and recommended for nomination by the PA-05 Service Academy Selection Board, led by Chairman Harry “Skip” Dittmann (Navy). Members of the Selection Board include Dave Carroll (Navy), Jack Guernsey (Army), Arthur Jenkins (Army), Jim King (Air Force), Kathryn Kirkman (Air Force), John Lunger (Navy), and Sharnae White (Army).
