Conestoga Crew Challenges Community to Support Eight-Million-Meter Fundraiser to Fuel 2026 Season

TREDYFFRIN/EASTTOWN — Rowing isn’t just a sport for Conestoga Crew, it’s a tradition that has grown into a point of pride for student-athletes, families, and the broader community. As the team prepares for another competitive year, the rowers are turning to local supporters with their most ambitious fundraising campaign yet: the Eight-Million-Meter Challenge.

Founded in 1999, Conestoga Crew is a non-profit scholastic rowing program for students at Conestoga High School. Based out of Philadelphia’s historic Boathouse Row, the club welcomes athletes of all experience levels and emphasizes teamwork, discipline, resilience, and personal growth, values that carry far beyond the river.

Rowers train year-round, often beginning before sunrise on the Schuylkill River, and compete in both fall and spring seasons at regattas across the region and country. Over the years, the program has developed a national reputation for excellence, with many alumni going on to row at the collegiate level, continuing Conestoga’s tradition of competitive rowing long after graduation.

Despite that success, Conestoga Crew remains largely supported by families and community donors. Rowing is an equipment-intensive sport, requiring ongoing investment in boats, oars, safety equipment, coaching launches, transportation, and travel. Fundraising plays a critical role in keeping the program accessible and competitive for student-athletes.

To help support the 2026 season, the team has launched the Eight-Million-Meter Challenge, an ergathon event in which rowers will collectively log eight million meters on indoor rowing machines. The event will take place Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. at the Tredyffrin/Easttown Middle School.

Community members are encouraged to contribute at any level, with donations helping cover everything from regatta transportation and equipment maintenance to on-water safety gear and fuel for coaching launches. Local businesses can also participate through corporate sponsorships, which provide an opportunity to support youth athletics while strengthening ties to the community.

The Eight-Million-Meter Challenge is about more than raising money, it’s a way to bring the community together behind a team that reflects the dedication, grit, and teamwork of local students. Former rowers, neighbors, and supporters alike are invited to help ensure that Conestoga Crew continues to thrive for generations to come.
