New Music School Opens at Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon, Now Enrolling for Fall

DEVON, PA — Main Line Unitarian Church (MLUC) has launched illumine Music School, a new community music program offering private lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, and voice. The school is now scheduling its first lessons, beginning after Labor Day.

illumine Music School was built around the idea that music making is for everyone, according to the school. Organizers say the program is aimed at people who have always wanted to sing or learn an instrument but held back—whether they worried they didn't have enough talent, felt it was too late to start, or didn't see progress in lessons they'd tried before.

The school's teachers include pianists Jodie Brown and Greg Fiorentino, guitar and ukulele teacher Nathan Surles, and voice teacher Kaitlyn Waterson, a lyric soprano and co-founder of the chamber ensemble illumine, which has performed at MLUC. Piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons are open to students age 5 and up; voice lessons are open to students age 10 and up. All are welcome regardless of age or experience.

Students will have several chances to perform, including a recital with professional piano accompaniment at the end of each semester, plus opportunities to play at MLUC's Open Mic Nights and during Sunday morning services.

Lessons are offered in 30-, 45-, and 60-minute increments, priced at $50, $75, and $100 respectively. New students can book a single trial lesson, starting at $50, before deciding whether to commit to a full semester, and payment plans are available for families with financial concerns.
