Road Rage Leads To Main Line Shooting, Attempted Murder Charges: DA

TREDYFFRIN, PA — A man aggressively chased down a driver in Tredyffrin Township while his passenger shot the victim's vehicle in a road rage incident, authorities said.

Philadelphia residents Sophay Yem and Intanon Chay were identified as the suspects who targeted a driver who cut them off in traffic this spring, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office.

This week, Yem and Chay were charged with attempted murder and related offenses. Both men are in custody.

The victim contacted police May 12, the day after the incident. He told investigators that he accidentally cut off a vehicle on Route 202, near the Route 30 bypass.

Yem, who was driving, aggressively followed the victim and swerved in front of him to try and force him off the roadway, authorities said.

As the victim exited onto Route 252, he heard shattered glass. He later discovered a bullet hole in his vehicle's door.

No one was injured.

After further investigation, investigators respectively identified Yem as the suspect driver and Chay as his passenger.

Yem, 35, and Chay, 36, were charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, terroristic threats and related offenses.

A judge set Yem's bail at $500,000 and Chay's at $350,000 during arraignments this week. Both defendants remain jailed in Chester County after failing to post bail.

Chay "denies any involvement in this shooting," said his attorney, Patrick Thomas Doherty.

Yem's attorney, Thomas Kenny, told Patch, "We are disputing the Commonwealth's allegations, and we will have our day in court."

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for Sept. 17.
