TESD Redistricting Enters Next Stage: Parents Sought To Help Craft Plans

The district is redrawing the boundary lines that determine elementary school attendance to prepare for a new school.

TREDYFFRIN, PA — The Tredyffrin/Easttown School District (TESD) is seeking parents to help craft plans for the school system's redistricting.

TESD is preparing to open a new school — Bear Hill Elementary — in August 2027, requiring the district to redraw the geographic boundary lines that determine which elementary school each child attends.

The district is seeking parent and guardian volunteers to serve on the Redistricting Steering Committee, which will develop and recommend a redistricting plan. That proposal will be presented for the School Board's approval.

Applications are open through April 24.

The committee will have 10 parents/guardians, an administrative staff liaison, and a contracted external facilitator. School Board members and district staff will observe meetings when appropriate.

Parents and guardians must have children in the district while meeting the following criteria:

  • having a child currently enrolled in Grades K-2
  • or, have a child currently in Grades 3-4 and a child who is not yet school-age

Although the Steering Committee will construct the redistricting plan, the school board must approve it. The district hopes to bring a proposal to the board by the end of this fall.

An Ad Hoc Committee developed some parameters for redistricting:

  • not dividing neighborhoods
  • maintaining the boundaries that determine middle-school attendance
  • adjusting middle-school feeder patterns: Once Bear Hill is operational, students from Beaumont, Devon and Hillside elementary schools will attend Tredyffrin/Easttown Middle School. Students from New Eagle, Valley Forge and Bear Hill elementaries will attend middle school at Valley Forge.

That would put all Hillside students in the same middle school instead of splitting them between both middle schools.

Selected Steering Committee members will be notified the week of May 4. Committee members should expect to:

  • Attend a brief introductory meeting prior to the end of the 2025–26 school year
  • Attend weekly meetings beginning in fall 2026 and continuing until the redistricting process is completed
  • Adhere to the committee norms
  • Maintain confidentiality
