Kentucky Fried Chicken Closes In Willow Grove

WILLOW GROVE, PA — The longtime Kentucky Friend Chicken restaurant on Old York Road across from the Willow Grove Park Mall has closed.

The closest KFC is at 8140 Ogontz Avenue in the Wyncote section of Cheltenham Township.

KFC has reported both temporary and permanent store closures in recent years, citing factors like chicken shortages, competition, and shifting consumer preferences, with some locations closing due to underperformance.

KFC began in 1930 in a humble service station in Corbin, Kentucky, where 40-year old Harland Sanders began feeding hungry travelers, according to KFC's website.

Sanders spent the next nine years perfecting his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices, as well as the basic cooking technique we still use today.

There are now over 24,000 KFC outlets in more than 145 countries and territories around the world.
