Rails-To-Trails Section Closing Friday In Upper Southampton Township

Township officials said the closure is from Bristol Road to a point 1,000 feet south. The closure is for fence installation.

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA —A section of the Rails-to-Trails will be closed starting Friday for a fence installation, township officials have announced.

The closure will be from Bristol Road to a point approximately 1,000 feet south.

Please stay clear of this area until the contractor has completed the work, township officials ask.

No timetable was given for when the work would be completed.

The Newtown Rail Trail begins at County Line Road, directly opposite the northern terminus of the Pennypack Trail, a rail-trail that extends south through Montgomery County to northeast Philadelphia. Both trails follow the route of the former SEPTA Fox Chase-Newtown Railroad, which was abandoned in the early 1980s.

The level, 12-foot wide crushed stone trail extends northeast from County Line Road, passing through wooded, residential neighborhoods to downtown Southampton, where it crosses Route 232.
