Ann's Choice Celebrates National Dog Month and the Joy of Pet-Friendly Living

A favorite amenity among pet owners is the community's on-campus dog park.

At Ann's Choice, an Erickson Senior Living community in Bucks County, Pa., residents are celebrating the special bond between people and their pets during National Dog Month and throughout the year.

Research continues to highlight the important role pets can play in helping older adults stay active, connected, and engaged. As a pet-friendly community, Ann's Choice welcomes residents and their four-legged family members, offering opportunities for both pets and owners to enjoy an active lifestyle and build meaningful connections.

A favorite amenity among pet owners is the community's on-campus dog park, which provides a dedicated space for exercise, play, and socialization.

For resident Janet Baldwin, life with her six-year-old Havanese, Becky, is about much more than companionship.

"Walking Becky four to five times a day keeps me active, and since she is so friendly, we meet so many people on our walks," said Baldwin. "She loves people and other pets."

Becky's friendly personality has helped Baldwin form friendships throughout the community, as residents frequently stop to chat and spend time with the lovable dog during their daily walks.

Baldwin's love of animals has also inspired community-wide engagement. Along with fellow residents Diane Voghel and Naureen Schnee, she founded Feathers and Fur Babies, a club that welcomes anyone who loves animals, whether or not they own a pet. The group hosts educational programs and invites animal organizations to visit Ann's Choice, giving residents opportunities to learn more about and interact with animals.

In addition, Baldwin co-hosts Pet Tales, a community TV program alongside resident Ted Mullins that features interviews with residents and their pets.

The community's dog park has become another popular gathering place where Baldwin regularly schedules play dates for Becky and other canine residents. Pet-centered events, including the community's semiannual Mutt Strutt, further bring residents together to celebrate their shared love of animals.

During National Dog Month and every month of the year, Ann's Choice continues to foster a welcoming, pet-friendly environment where residents and their pets can stay active, build friendships, and enrich the lives of one another and the broader community.
