WEST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, PA — Chester County-based home shopping network QVC said Friday that "there are no planned layoffs or furloughs" the day after they announced Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a major development for a key driver of the Chester County area's economic engine.

"All team members should fully expect to continue receiving their wages and benefits without interruption," the company added.

The bankruptcy filing will give QVC 90 days to attempt to restructure about $6.6 billion in debt. In an SEC filing this week, the company pointed to steadily declining viewership that was driven at least in part by streaming services and the abundance of options for modern consumers.

"The rapid growth of mobile devices, social platforms and streaming services has fundamentally shifted video consumption, while traditional cable television, historically the foundation of the Company’s business model, has experienced structural decline," the company said in a statement.

But QVC president and CEO David Rawlinson expressed optimism that the company could return to profitability, citing a shifted focus to social media platforms.

“QVC Group is uniquely positioned to compete and win in live social shopping, and we are seeing early momentum (in our current strategy)..." he said in a statement. "This process will allow for QVC Group to have the financial structure it needs to accelerate our return to growth.”

In addition to employees not being immediately impacted, QVC says their programming will continue as usual during the bankruptcy filing period.

Of course, there is no guarantee that filing for Chapter 11 will solve QVC's woes, and even if the process successfully pulls the company out of debt, there is no guarantee that their new business model will return them to profitability. Companies that go through Chapter 11 are often forced to consolidate departments, and despite QVC's public statements about their immediate plans, this process has often historically led to downsizing and layoffs.

QVC is the 11th largest employer in Chester County, according to state data released in late 2025. Their Studio Park campus on Wilson Drive, just off of Route 202, is their global headquarters.
