Rising Delaware River Forces Closure Of Yardley Road

YARDLEY, PA —With the Delaware River continuing to rise following heavy rainfall Sunday, the Yardley Borough Police Department has closed North Delaware Avenue.

Yardley Borough Police said that the river has risen to "action stage" and has entered the roadway along North Delaware Avenue.

North Delaware Avenue has been closed by barricades and all traffic is detoured until the barricades are removed, police said.

The forecast has the river continuing to rise until later Tuesday.

As of 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, the Delaware River is at 18.16 feet with the "action stage" at 17 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

Yardley Police said the safest way out of the Rivermawr neighborhood is by way of Florence Avenue. All residents are encouraged to use that route.

The Rivermawr neighborhood consists of Brown Street, Morgan Avenue, Maple Avenue, Florence Avenue, Fuld Street, and North Delaware Avenue.

"We will continue to work with Yardley Boro Emergency Management, Public Safety officials, and Public Works during the duration of the event and all are encouraged to follow the Yardley Borough Facebook page for further updates," police said.
