5 Freight Train Cars Derail In Morrisville

Morrisville Police said that several borough streets are expected to be closed throughout the day Friday due to the incident.

MORRISVILLE BOROUGH, PA — The Morrisville Police Department said a train derailment on Friday morning is shutting several borough roads.

Police said that five freight train cars derailed, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the derailment is not known at this time.

Morrisville Borough Police Chief Rich Ciampa told Levittown Now that the cars were carrying corn syrup when they went off the tracks.

The closures are expected to remain in place throughout the day. Police said drivers should seek alternate routes.

"We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation while crews work to address the situation," police said.

Patch has reached out to the police chief for more information about the train derailment.

Morrisville Police are advising residents and drivers of the following street closures:

  • South Delmorr Avenue to Moreau Street to Philadelphia Avenue will be closed.
  • Green Street from Grove Street to Delmorr Avenue will also be closed.
  • Motorists are asked to allow extra travel time and follow all posted detours and directions from emergency personnel.
