YARDLEY, PA —With heavy rainfall expected from a storm starting Tuesday, Yardley Borough is warning residents to expect flooding, especially in the Rivermawr section.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly said that the region could receive up to 4 inches of rain with the heaviest rainfall expected between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday.

After this past weekend's storm, the National Weather Service said that saturated ground will make rivers and creeks run higher with Tuesday's rainfall, thus causing flooding throughout the region.

Borough officials said they're expecting "the potential for a high-water event" over the next 24-48 hours.

With the anticipated rainfall, the conditions are favorable for flooding in the Rivermawr section (North of the Yardley Inn) between the Delaware Canal and the Delaware River.

The Delaware River is expected to crest sometime Wednesday.

Water levels depend on the amount of rainfall, snowmelt to the north, and tidal conditions. The forecast also calls for winds over 40 mph, borough officials said.

Borough officials are asking residents to take the necessary precautions:

  • Secure trashcans (if possible put your trash out Wednesday morning to alleviate the possibility of trash blowing all over the streets).
  • Secure gas grills and their propane tanks Secure lawn furniture Service sump pumps and generators.
  • Adopt the storm drain on your street and remove any leaves and or debris so the runoff can go into the storm drains.
