2 Rhode Island Starbucks Closing: Reports

Starbucks is closing two Rhode Island locations, according to reports.

Starbucks said in an announcement last week that it was closing 250 coffee shops.

"We have carefully reviewed our North America coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance," the company said.

The two impacted Rhode Island locations are at East Greenwich: 555 Main St. in East Greenwich and 1727 Post Road in Warwick, according to USA Today.

"Starbucks Workers United, the labor union that represents Starbucks employees, told USA TODAY via email that 20 unionized coffee shops will be impacted by the closures," USA Today reported.

At least one Warwick resident was surprised by the development, according to WJAR.

“It just was open,” a resident told the outlet. “I don’t know why they are closing already.”
