Aquatic Weed Treatments Planned for 2 RI Ponds, 1 Lake

The treatments start next week.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Aquatic weed treatments are planned for two Rhode Island ponds and one lake.

The treatments at Carolina Trout Pond in Richmond, Shippee Sawmill Pond in Foster, and Meshanticut Lake in Cranston start Tuesday, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced.

"Anglers and boaters should avoid using these waterbodies during treatment to not impede the licensed applicators," the department said in a media release.

The herbicide treatments target specific invasive aquatic plants, including variable water milfoil, fanwort, water chestnut, sacred lotus, and various algae species, according to the release.
