Field Of 4 In Rhode Island Democratic Primary For Attorney General

A field of four is running in the Democratic primary for attorney general.

Kim Ahern was a deputy chief of staff in the office of Gov. Daniel McKee, a legal counsel, a special assistant attorney general and a law clerk, and has also been affiliated with the Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission, according to Ballotpedia.

One her campaign website, Ahern lists putting violent offenders behind bars and bringing justice to survivors, providing mental health resources, and prosecuting hate crimes and civil rights violations as key issues.

Keith Hoffmann graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009 and got a law degree from Fordham Law School in 2014, according to Ballotpedia.

"He served as counsel to the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training, launching an expanded statewide police training program on civil rights and hate crimes," according to his campaign website. "He advised the state on the allocation of opioid lawsuit settlement funds, fought for children suffering from lead poisoning, worked to secure more than $40 million in funding for primary health care, and successfully defended Rhode Island's landmark gun safety laws."

Jason Knight is a state representative whose term ends in January.

On his campaign website, Knight listed reproductive freedom, gun safety, criminal justice, and standing up to Donald Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as key issues.

Joseph Solomon Jr. is also a state representative whose term ends in January.

"I’m running for Attorney General because protecting Rhode Island families has been the focus of my entire career," Solomon said on his campaign website.

"I’ve spent more than a decade working in our justice system — as a prosecutor, as a bail commissioner, and as a state representative," Solomon said. "I have made the tough decisions to keep our communities safe and stood up for people when they needed someone in their corner to fight for them."

The victor in the primary will face Republican Alan Gordon, who is running unopposed in the GOP primary.
