West Nile Virus Detected In 3 More Rhode Island Towns
Rhode Island's risk for West Nile virus remains high, according to the state.
PROVIDENCE, RI — West Nile virus has been detected in three more Rhode Island towns.
Samples testing positive for the virus were found in Cranston, North Providence and Providence, according to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
The samples were collected Aug. 4.

Rhode Island’s risk level for West Nile virus was elevated to high last month and remains high statewide, according to the department of environmental management.
West Nile is the main mosquito-borne disease in the United States, the department said in a media release, and there is no vaccine to prevent it.

About 20% infected with the virus "develop a fever and other symptoms," the release said.
