Meth, Downers Seized And 2 Arrested During Cranston Traffic Stop: Cops

CRANSTON, RI — Two wanted men were arrested and methamphetamine and prescription pills were seized during a Monday afternoon traffic stop, police said.

The two men — Brandon Pierpont, 33, and Miguel Rodriguez, 28 — were heading south on Broad Street and were pulled over after turning onto Wentworth Avenue about 4:45 p.m., the Cranston Police Department said in a media release.

"During the stop, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle," the release said. "A records check also revealed that Pierpont (who was driving) had an active extradition warrant from Grafton County, New Hampshire, related to narcotics offenses, as well as an active Cranston warrant related to domestic violence offenses."

It turned out Rodriguez also had a warrant out for his arrest and was wanted by the "Woonsocket Police Department for domestic violence-related offenses," according to the release.

After the two men were arrested, officers searched the Hyundai sedan they were traveling in and found a "black backpack containing approximately 30 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a digital scale containing white powder residue, $90 in cash, and several pills," the release said.

"The pills were identified through their markings as five Lorazepam tablets, two Clonazepam tablets, and six Xanax tablets," according to the release.

Pierpont, a resident of Bellingham, Massachusetts, was charged with domestic violence — breaking and entering a dwelling, manufacturing, delivering or possessing with intent to manufacture or deliver methamphetamine, possession of controlled substances, domestic violence — simple assault and/or battery, domestic violence — disorderly conduct, and fugitive from justice, the release said.

"Piermont was arraigned by a justice of the peace and transported to the Adult Correctional Institution Intake Center," according to the release.

Rodriguez, a resident of Cranston, was charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, the release said.

" After arraignment at Cranston Police Headquarters, officers turned him over to the Woonsocket Police Department," according to the release.
