Rhode Island Drunken Wrong-Way Crash Prisoner Charged With Possessing Drugs

CRANSTON, RI — A Rhode Island prisoner serving a 10-year sentence for a drunken wrong-way crash that injured six was charged with possessing drugs, police said.

Cary Guy, 33, was charged Tuesday with possession of a controlled substance.

The date of the offense was Jan. 12, court records show. That was three days before Guy was sentenced to 10 years in prison for driving the wrong way on Interstate 195 in East Providence and crashing "head-on with multiple vehicles" in May 2022, according to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office.

Guy injured six — four seriously — in one of the May 2022 crashes, the attorney general's office said in a media release.

Guy's most recent arrest was the result of a probe by the Rhode Island State Police Adult Correctional Institutions Special Investigations and Investigations units, the state police said in a media release.
