The proposed Algonquin Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement Project would increase natural gas capacity throughout parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including work that directly affects Cumberland and Northern Rhode Island. The project includes replacing an existing pipeline with a significantly larger pipeline and making other system upgrades designed to increase energy reliability and capacity.
While much of the work would occur within existing utility corridors, the project could involve:
✅ Tree removal and vegetation clearing
✅ Soil disturbance and excavation
✅ Construction-related traffic, noise, and dust
✅ Long-term impacts to existing utility corridors and community resources
The permitting process is underway, but construction is not expected to begin until 2028, meaning there is still time for local residents to ask questions, express concerns, and provide meaningful input.
