Frenchtown Road Bridge Lane Shift In East Greenwich Starts Thursday

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will shift traffic on the Frenchtown Road Bridge over Route 4.

EAST GREENWICH, RI β€” The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will implement a new temporary traffic pattern on the Frenchtown Road Bridge over Route 4 in East Greenwich.

The change is scheduled to begin Thursday night. The lane reduction, which currently limits traffic to one lane in each direction, will remain in effect. The original date for this shift was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

RIDOT is undertaking a project to replace the structurally deficient bridge, according to a media release.

The first phase, involving the replacement of the eastbound portion, is nearing completion. With the new pattern, traffic will move onto this newly constructed section of the bridge. This will allow RIDOT to proceed with the demolition and replacement of the westbound side of the structure.

During the second phase, specific left-turn restrictions will continue. Motorists will not be permitted to make left turns at the intersection of Frenchtown Road, Davisville Road and the on-ramp to Route 4 North.
