Friends of East Prov. Library Offer Collectors' Corner

Volunteer members of Friends of the East Providence Public Library have gathered more than 100 special or unusual books that have been donated by library patrons. These collectible books will be available at the Fall Book Sale at Weaver Library from October 22 to 25, 2026. A list of some of these special books is available on the Friends of the East Providence Library web page on the East Providence Public Library website at https://eastprovidencelibrary.org/friends-library. The books are listed with a short description and price on the site. Books on a wide variety of topics are featured. More are added as they arrive.

Among the current books offered are a rare 1855 first edition of Physical Geography of the Sea by Matthew F. Maury. Maury laid the foundations of oceanography, sketched the first section and first map of the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. A six-volume set of The Oxford Illustrated Jane Austen sells for $60. The Titanic section includes a 1955 first edition of A Night to Remember by Walter Lord, signed by the author and Frank Alks, one of the last survivors. The History section includes a 10-volume 1948 set of Toynbee’s A Study of History, the definitive guide to the reasons for the rise and fall of civilizations over time. The fashion section includes Dressed to Kill, a volume on Jazz Age fashion, for $20. Interesting Finds includes Julia Child’s The Way to Cook for $5 and a two-volume set of The English Bible for $15. A special selection of rare, finely crafted leather-bound books from the Oxford Library of the World’s Great Books, printed by The Franklin Library is also available and listed on the web page.

Collectors’ Corner books will be available at the Fall Book Sale at Weaver Library October 22 to 25.
