Middletown, RI

Middletown, R.I. — Middletown residents can expect a visit from a St. George’s School student on Saturday, Nov. 7, as part of the 42nd Annual Feed-a-Friend Food Drive.

All 400 students from the private school, along with parents and faculty members, will travel throughout local neighborhoods to collect canned items and dry goods to help stock the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center’s food pantry. Middletown residents can expect a visit between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., and may leave items in a bag marked “Feed-a-Friend” ready for pickup on front steps or next to mailboxes.

Food from the drive allows the MLK Center to make up hundreds of holiday baskets distributed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Some of the items especially requested this year include: canned or boxed potatoes, boxed stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, gravy, canned peas, and beans.

Last year, St. George’s School volunteers collected 3,000 bags of food from generous neighbors, along with cash donations of nearly $2,000. This year, the students have distributed 4,000 bags to nearby homes ahead of the drive.
