Celebrate Newport’s rich tradition of religious diversity on Religious Freedom Day, Tuesday, July 7.

At the Loeb Visitors Center, visitors are invited to explore two floors of interactive multimedia exhibits, browse the gift shop, and stroll through adjacent Patriot's Park.

Celebrate more than 250 years of Touro Synagogue history, Newport's colonial Jewish community, the origins of religious liberty, and the separation of church and state in America. Discover how Newport and the Colony of Rhode Island laid the groundwork for our religious freedoms protected by the First Amendment. A centerpiece of the exhibits is the famous letter President George Washington wrote in 1790 to Newport's Hebrew congregation.

Admission is free; donations are warmly welcome.

A 1-hour Colonial Jewish Walking Tour of the Touro Synagogue neighborhood will also be offered from the Loeb Visitors Center at 11:00 am on July 7. Details HERE.
