'Expect Heavy Traffic' With Newport Jazz Festival This Weekend, Police Warn

The Newport Jazz Festival starts Friday.

NEWPORT, RI — Musicians will jam at the Newport Jazz Festival and traffic will jam on the roads along with it, police warned.

The festival starts Friday and runs through Sunday.

Starting each day at 8 a.m., "expect heavy traffic on Harrison Avenue and the roads surrounding Fort Adams as vehicles will be entering the fort," the Newport Police Department said in a media release.

"Vehicles typically begin exiting Fort Adams around 7:30 p.m.," the releasen said. "Heavy traffic is expected on Harrison Avenue, Ruggles Avenue, Bellevue Avenue, Narragansett Avenue, Coggeshall Avenue, Annandale Road, Memorial Boulevard and in the downtown area. Traffic will be dispersed on Memorial Boulevard."

Downtown businesses and restaurants will remain open, according to the release.
