Cops Making Death Notification After Bridge-Jumper Suicide Find Slain Man In Motel: Police

The 85-year-old man was the victim of a homicide, police said.

NEWPORT, RI — Officers making a death notification at a Newport motel following a bridge-jumper suicide found a slain man, police said.

Terry Costello, 85, was the victim of a homicide, the Newport Police Department said in a media release.

Officers found Costello dead in room 132 of the Harbor Base Inn on Connell Highway Monday morning, the release said.

The Bristol Police Department requested Newport police make the notification after a 66-year-old man jumped to his death from the Mount Hope Bridge, according to the release.

"When officers arrived, they found 85-year-old Terry Costello deceased inside the room," the release said.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday by the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office and "this death is being investigated as a homicide," according to the release.
