NEWPORT, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended reopening the Easton's Beach swimming area.
The department of health had recommended closing the swimming area of the Newport beach "due to high bacteria counts."
The department recommended reopening Easton's Beach Monday.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said in a media release.
"The status of a beach may change as new data become available," the release said. "The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line (401-222-2751)."
