Former Nurse Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Elderly Patients At RI Rehab Center: AG

The Richmond man was a registered nurse at Bayview Rehabilitation at Scalabrini in North Kingstown.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A former nurse was found guilty of sexually assaulting elderly patients at a North Kingstown rehabilitation center, according to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office.

A jury found Scott Leski, 57, guilty of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and abuse, the attorney general's office said in a media release.

Leski, a resident of Richmond was convicted following a five-day trial, according to the release.

Leski sexually assaulted two elderly men, both residents at the Bayview Rehabilitation at Scalabrini in North Kingstown, one in 2020 and one and another in 2023, the release said.

“When our loved ones need medical treatment, we entrust the staff members at any given facility with their well-being, the vast majority of which deliver extraordinary care," Attorney General Peter F. Neronha said in the release.

“That said, and unfortunately, this defendant took advantage of his patients, neither of whom had the ability defend themselves," Neronha said. "His crimes caused trauma that will stay with these patients and their families for the rest of their lives."

Leski was an agency registered nurse working third shift at Bayview Rehabilitation in July 2020 when he "sexually assaulted a long-term care patient with significantly limited mobility in the patient’s room during an overnight shift," the release said.

"The patient recounted the assault to his daughter two weeks later, and his daughter contacted North Kingstown Police Department," according to the release.

Then, while still working at Bayview Rehabilitation, in the early morning hours of Dec. 16, 2023, Leski again sexually assaulted a patient with significantly limited mobility in the patient’s room during an overnight shift, the release said.

"The next morning, the patient recounted the assault to the first shift nurse, who contacted the North Kingstown Police Department," according to the release.

“Sexual assault cases are some of the most difficult cases we investigate,” North Kingstown Police Chief John Urban Jr. said in the release.
