The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing the swimming area due to high bacteria counts.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The state recommended shutting down swimming at Smithfield's Georgiaville Pond Beach.

The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing the swimming area due to high bacteria counts.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said. "The status of a beach may change as new data becomes available."
