Paul Cuffe called Westport home, and now his story comes to the Westport Free Public Library. Cuffe was a sea captain, shipbuilder, merchant, abolitionist and philanthropist, and one of Westport’s most prominent historical figures. Join us for a screening of the short film Cuffe: Taxed by local filmmaker Anita Allison, followed by a Q&A with Anita. Based on a true story, the film follows 19-year-old Cuffe as he sails past a British blockade during the Revolutionary War to bring food to starving Nantucket. We’ll also screen Allison’s award-winning music video “Paul Cuffe Is Me.” This event is free and open to all; no registration required, just walk in and enjoy! This event is made possible by the Friends of Westport Library.
