WPD Called for Shots at Vehicle, Arrest Man Hiding in Home

A city man faces domestic felony assault chargesΒ after Woonsocket officers responded to a report that he fired shots at a vehicle as it left his house early Saturday.

When Woonsocket Police arrived atΒ Damaso Hernandez Sr.'s homeΒ at 4:52 a.m., the man refused to leave his house to speak with the officers, according to a release from the Woonsocket Police Department.Β When officers finally convincedΒ HernandezΒ to come to the door, he attempted to slam it on them. The officers prevented the door from closing and were able to graspΒ Hernandez by the arms. A brief struggle ensued, according to the release.Β The officers were able to takeΒ Hernandez into custody without injury to himΒ or them.

Police searchedΒ Hernandez's home, turning upΒ a shotgun, 9mm Ruger handgun, and AR-15 rifle, all loaded. Officers also foundΒ a musket style gun, a sword, pellet gun, and buck knife. Police seized them all as part of the investigation.

Woonsocket Police are charging Hernandez withΒ two counts of domestic felony assault with a weapon, firing a weapon in a compact area, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice.
