A Hot Weekend with Storm Chances Ahead for North Texas

Chances for isolated to scattered storms will continue in North Texas on Saturday with highs in the lower 90s and heat index values around 100.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Friday afternoon.

According to the bulletin, Sunday will be hotter and more humid with heat index values likely to exceed 105 across much of the area.

Additionally, the Brazos Valley area could see isolated storms and showers on Sunday, but the coverage should remain around or less than 10%.

The seasonably hot and humid weather is expected to continue next week. Occasional showers and thunderstorms may affect parts of North Texas towards the Red River counties.

Expects highs in the 90s each day with afternoon heat index values ranging from the mid 90s to around 105 through midweek.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor weekly report for June 16, the southern states experienced widespread and substantial rainfall of 2-6 inches last week. Most areas of the deep southern states experienced drought improvement from the rainfall.

The northeastern portion of the Texas Panhandle saw 2-4 inches of rainfall over an area of exceptional drought, which helped to relieve drought conditions with a small downgrade to extreme drought there.

This week, more heavy rainfall is hitting the Deep South as a result of Tropical Storm Arthur near the southeastern Texas coast. Deep tropical moisture moved northeastward from Arthur as it advanced into the Southeastern states.
