Thunderstorm Activity Returns to North Texas Over the Weekend

North Texas can expect a cool and cloudy Wednesday evening and Thursday ahead of more thunderstorm activity over the weekend.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Wednesday afternoon. According to the alert, clouds will linger with much cooler temperatures across the region tonight into tomorrow.

While light rain can't be completely ruled out, virtually all of North and Central Texas should remain dry during this time. Overnight lows will be below average in the upper 40s and 50s, with slightly below normal highs on Thursday in the low and mid 70s.

After this lull in storm activity, more unsettled weather returns to the region this weekend with daily chances for thunderstorms across portions of North and Central Texas. The NWS will continue monitoring for the potential for additional strong to severe storms during this time.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the current wildfire preparedness level is 1. Level 1 indicates minimal drought and normal fuel moisture allowing local resources to suppress wildfires without an issue. Fire activity is minimal. On May 5, the service received zero requests for assistance on wildfires.

A Texas Fire Potential Update for May 4-10 notes that Thursday and into the weekend an unsettled period will increase precipitation chances for the eastern and southern portions of the state. There is no strong fire weather forecast and no accelerated drying of surface fuels for the western portions of the state and supports limited to low initial attack fire potential.
