Spanning continents and generations, Out Laws follows three courageous LGBTQ+ activists confronting the colonial-era laws that continue to criminalize queer people around the world. Moving between Namibia and the UK, the film reveals how colonialism, religion, and modern political movements have shaped the global fight for LGBTQ+ rights—and celebrates the resilience of those working to change it.
Following the screening, join co-director James Lewis and executive producer Saul Parker LIVE in Austin for an important post-film conversation exploring the politics of being queer around the world, the legacy of criminalization, and the global forces shaping LGBTQ+ lives today.
This special Documentary Centerpiece Experience is presented with community partner Indie Meme Film Festival, helping us broaden the conversation around international independent cinema, culture, identity, and human rights.
