Saint John’s in the Village

Reverence and Resistance is a choral concert that speaks to humanitarian questions of our time, featuring the treble-voice world premiere of Rumor Mill, an a cappella masterpiece about loss and longing in the Palestinian diaspora. Acclaimed poet Naomi Shihab Nye will read, and Accord Composer-in-Residence Shireen Abu-Khader will offer commentary. 
The program puts music of protest side-by-side with music of praise: including a contemporary mass by Andre Caplet, a 13th-century chant reimagined by David Douglas, and a joyfully transporting piece by composer Cedrick Howoseb, in the Otjiherero language by way of Namibia, accompanied by djembe. Other works explore hope amidst oppression and celebrate the power of the individual to create change. Aszure Barton is among the most original and sought-after choreographers of her generation — a singular voice whose work has moved audiences around the world, from Nederlands Dans Theater to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. We are honored to close our Women Move the World 2025/26 Harkness Mainstage Series with a landmark event that celebrates her holistic vision.
As director of Aszure Barton &amp; Artists | AB&amp;A — a multidisciplinary dance hub founded in New York in the early 2000s — Aszure has expanded beyond the conventional choreographer-company structure by reshaping what it means to build a body of work, “a mobile home for trusted humans,” as she says. Since its inception, she’s been generating dance language with her most-trusted AB&amp;A crew while simultaneously creating commissions worldwide — all through a rigorous, collaborative process that simultaneously respects and dismantles classical and contemporary forms. AB&amp;A serves as both a watering hole and connecting thread for this choreographer and her collaborators.
This 92NY celebration shares her interconnected web of community with ours by bringing together AB&amp;A artists from across the globe, including dancers from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart among them Andrew Cummings, and others. In a single evening, audience members will witness a breadth of Aszure’s artistic voice through artists who have inspired her process over the years. This gathering highlights her path as a prolific choreographer, celebrating where the work has been and will go while uplifting her love of music and longtime collaborators — giving you a grasp of how she has and will continue to reshape the dance landscape internationally.

The New York Historical

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is hosting a FREE activation at a New York institution blending aviation history, US-Dutch heritage, and travel fun. This is free and open to the public and ideal for aviation geeks + travel enthusiasts alike as they prep for summer travel. 

The consumer activation will take place in New York City on May 22-27, 2026.

WHO: 
To mark 80 years (May 21, 1946) since KLM Royal Dutch Airlines became the first European airline to launch scheduled service between New York and Amsterdam, the airline is unveiling a first-of-its-kind partnership with New York Historical including a consumer pop up experience which will be open to the public to explore. 

WHEN AND WHERE
The KLM pop up (free and open to the public) will take place May 22-27, 2026 at the New York Historical located at 170 Central Park West, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (The museum will be closed Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day.)

WHAT AND WHY:
A Delft House Pop-up at The New York Historical 
At The New York Historical, which houses one of the most important collections of Dutch, New Amsterdam, and early American art, the public is invited to discover the KLM travel experience through a special Delft House pop-up in the lobby. From May 22nd to May 27th, 2026, visitors can explore an immersive space that will showcase the pioneering legacy of KLM through historical items including its menus and in-flight magazines, video footage and digital assets, and a special Delft house display, ending with the new miniature Delft house of The New York Historical. 

Visitors will learn more about the Dutch connection as the museum will present the Old Masters, New Amsterdam exhibit, with paintings of Rembrandt and his contemporaries, depicting life in New York. (May 1 – August 30, 2026)

About Langston Hughes II:
Langston Hughes II is a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, composer, and educator whose warm, expressive sound and lyrical improvisational voice have earned him recognition as one of the emerging talents of his generation. Based in New York City, he has performed with leading artists across the jazz world and appeared on stages throughout the United States and beyond.&nbsp;
Hughes has shared the stage with renowned musicians including Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Cyrus Chestnut, and Ulysses Owens Jr., among others. His performances have taken him to prestigious venues and festivals such as the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Keystone Korner, the DC Jazz Festival, and leading clubs and concert halls across the country.&nbsp;
As a bandleader, Hughes presents original music and creative interpretations of the jazz tradition, drawing from the lineage of great saxophonists while cultivating a personal, modern voice. His playing is marked by a rich, centered tone, rhythmic clarity, and a deep commitment to melodic storytelling.&nbsp;
Originally from Prince George’s County, Maryland, Hughes began his formal jazz studies at Howard University, where he studied under acclaimed saxophonist and educator Charlie Young III. Under Young’s mentorship, he developed the discipline, self-diagnostic skills, and musical foundation that continue to shape his artistic path. He later moved to New York City to pursue a master’s degree in Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School.&nbsp;
Beyond the bandstand, Hughes is an active and passionate educator. He maintains a private teaching studio and works with young musicians through school programs, workshops, and nonprofit organizations. His teaching centers on sound development, musical expression, and the cultivation of discipline, confidence, and artistic identity.&nbsp;
Through his work as a performer, composer, and mentor, Langston Hughes II continues to build a career rooted in musical excellence, community, and the enduring spirit of the jazz tradition.Free and open to the public.
