Dr. Meredith Whitley, Professor of Sport-Based Youth Development at Adelphi University and a Research Fellow with the Centre for Sports Leadership at Stellenbosch University in South Africa will present a free webinar, “Changing the Game: Integrating Mental Health into Youth Sport Ecosystems”. Dr. Whitley summarizes her talk: “While sports offer tremendous opportunities for growth, physical health, and community, the modern youth sports environment has become increasingly intense and demanding. As overall youth mental health struggles rise nationwide, the pressure of year-round schedules, early specialization, and social media can make playing sports feel more overwhelming than rewarding. This lecture breaks down how sports culture has changed and introduces a clear, seven-part blueprint to create a healthier ecosystem for young athletes to build life skills while retaining their love for the game.” Xiaofang Chen, Co-Founder and President of Alan Hu Foundation, appreciates the generous support of Three Valleys Community Foundation and the Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities. Simultaneous live Chinese and Spanish interpretation will be available during the webinar.
Dr. Whitley’s research reimagines advancing youth sport development from within for wider systemic change. Among other accomplishments, she recently served on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, & Nutrition Science Board. Dr. Whitley has designed, implemented, and evaluated sport-based programs, from school-based programs in Boston and San Francisco to community-based programs with refugee youth in Michigan, urban youth in New York, Xhosa youth in South Africa, and students in Nigeria. Most recently, she collaborated with Beyond Sport to assess an intervention designed to improve mental health outcomes for youth of color, LGBTQ+, and girls, and for the past two years, has led the development of the Mental Health Guidelines for Youth Sport across the United States.
The free webinar will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, via Zoom from 5:30 – 6:30 pm PT. It will include 15 minutes for questions and answers following Dr. Whitley’s presentation. Please RSVP by October 12, 2026, at: https://alanhufoundation.org/ to receive the Zoom meeting link. Participants may join beginning at 5:15 pm.
The Alan Hu Foundation was created by Xiaofang Chen and Chih-Ching Hu in memory of their son, Alan. He passed away due to mental disorders in 2018 at the age of 15. Their mission is to promote mental health, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders, and to support fundamental research for cures.

For over a year, people across America have come together to celebrate the power of the people. No Kings: Vote Early is an invitation to keep that spirit going with a day of community, connection, and nonpartisan voter participation.
We are taking this opportunity to organize a fun event where voters of all stripes, current and future, are celebrated.
Join us at Emerald Glen Park for a relaxed, joyful afternoon designed for parents, kids, and neighbors to connect, enjoy the fresh air, and take part in our American civic life together. In celebration of the season, costumes are encouraged!
Here’s what’s in store: - Fun for Kids: Face painting, hands-on craft stations, and carnival-style games. - Mock Voting: A playful way for kids and parents to practice democracy. - Meet & Greet: Chat casually with friendly local civic leaders. - Nonpartisan Voter Info: Voter registration, information on early voting and ballot safety with zero political pitches. - Stroll to the Polls: Bring your ballot and join us for a group walk to drop off completed ballots together at the Wave ballot drop box.
Stop by for twenty minutes or stay for the whole afternoon, whatever fits your family's rhythm. Bring the kids, enjoy the park, and build community.
No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
