1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
This class is being offered to ages 12 and up!
$20.00 for members per class
$25.00 for non members per class
Instructor: Joseph Rogine
These classes are designed for both beginning to advanced students who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. I have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced.
It is an academic course, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). Drawings are created by copying master drawings, simple to complex still-life objects and classical plaster casts. The student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them.
All students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. The capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. Classes are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it, through the language and medium of drawing.
The student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page, assessing proportion, elementary perspective, gauge angles, identify shapes, access the degree of curvature of forms, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. This opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago.
Depending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal, pastel pencil, pen and ink etc., along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium. Joseph Rogine supply list 2024.

This class is for teens who enjoy making art but need guidance with drawing skills, use of materials, color choices and composition. The principles of design, composition, value are learned using the traditional art materials of various pencils, watercolor, acrylic and pastel… or a combination of medium. Students should bring their own materials and their creativity, with a willingness to experiment with new ideas and/or new materials. If a beginner artist, bring a sketch pad (10×12), drawing pencils and a kneaded rubber eraser. To encourage growth as an artist, it is helpful to this instructor if for the first few sessions, students bring in a few samples of their art, to initiate a discussion about their learning goals.

Hello members,
My new class is starting, and I will continue to set up a still-life, and instruct students with their own projects, but . . .Ever get frustrated with a watercolor you just can’t get right? Been there, done that. Some time ago I did a portrait of a niece in watercolor. Loved the tilt of her head and the flowers in her hair (she was a bridesmaid I think); but at that time I could not achieve the softness of her face in paint. So, I went over the entire work with pastels, which are soft and blend beautifully. Join me in class, beginning April 1, 3:30 – 5:30, for 8 weeks. $160 members, $200 for non-members. I will supply the pastels. Doesn’t have to be a portrait that you want to enhance, could be landscape, still-life or abstract. So much fun to get messy with your materials.

The Guild requests a $3 donation to the Guild at each session from each person who attends the session.
We take turns around the circle singing songs and maybe singing or playing along. We sing folk songs, pop songs, and hymns, and sometimes we have an improvised music jam. The only rule is that it’s all acoustic, with no amplifiers or microphones. Everyone is welcome to take a turn in the circle, or just to listen. If you come just to listen, feel free to bring a quiet activity such as sketching or reading. With great enthusiasm, we invite you to join us on the Asbury Park Boardwalk for our 6thannual Walk In Their Shoes, on Sunday, November 8th,from 9amto 11am.Wewalk to support the residents, clientsandthe programs of Ocean’s Harbor House and bring awareness and honor the lives represented in November - National Youth HomelessnessAwareness Month.
When people hear "homeless youth," they sometimes picture a young person literally sleeping on the street. And yes, that happens. But youth homelessness can also look like sleeping on someone's couch, moving from house to house, staying somewhere unsafe because there is nowhere else to go, or turning 18 and suddenly realizing there is no stable adult or home to fall back on. At Ocean’s Harbor House, our goal isn't simply to give a young person somewhere to stay. We help them build a life they can sustain after they leave us.
Here, our programs help young people find a pathway toward stability and independence. But young people shouldn't have to navigate that pathway alone. Our job is to provide structure, support, accountability, and opportunity. The SHORE House, our Supervised Transitional Living Program, provides housing and support for young people ages 16–21 with services extending into young adulthood through our Aftercare Programs. Through our Life-Skills Development Initiative, we teach practical skills young adults actually need in financial, housing and leasing literacy, employment and professionalism, communication and self-advocacy, health and wellness support. Our Day Services and Harbor Hub provide a central location for young people seeking these supports, along with guidance and a welcoming space to connect. Our Harbor COMPASS Street Outreach meets our young people in need where they are in the community and in their lives, connecting them to immediate safety and essential services. Your support is an essential part of how that happens. Your contributions make an incredible difference in creating a pathway to hopeful and sustainable futures for the young people of our shared communities.
Join us, along with the incomparable Ocean Avenue Stompers, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department, and our Monmouth and Ocean County community partners as we walk to support, to honor, to elevate, and to celebrate the young lives impacted through the 40-year mission and vision of Ocean’s Harbor House.
