Saint John’s in the Village

<p><b>Reverence and Resistance </b>is a choral concert that speaks to humanitarian questions of our time, featuring the treble-voice world premiere of <i>Rumor Mill</i>, an a cappella masterpiece about loss and longing in the Palestinian diaspora. Acclaimed poet Naomi Shihab Nye will read, and Accord Composer-in-Residence Shireen Abu-Khader will offer commentary. </p>
<p>The program puts music of protest side-by-side with music of praise: including a contemporary mass by Andre Caplet, a 13<sup>th</sup>-century chant reimagined by David Douglas, and a joyfully transporting piece by composer Cedrick Howoseb, in the Otjiherero language by way of Namibia, accompanied by djembe<i>. </i>Other works explore hope amidst oppression and celebrate the power of the individual to create change.
