Wednesday, August 19 at 6 p.m. Movie night on the lawn…but better! Think drive-in movie theater, with boats! Arrive at 6 p.m. (or earlier if you’d like more time to build) where we’ll construct boats out of cardboard to sit in and enjoy the movie. Building isn’t for you? Bring along your favorite float for a cozy seat on the lawn. The movie will start just before dark. Co-presented with <a href="https://www.chapoquoityachtclub.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Chapoquoit Yacht Club</a>.

The library’s Artist of the Month for August is watercolor artist <a href="https://www.mariancolmanart.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Marian Colman</a>. Items on display are for sale.
Marian Colman has been an artist and art educator for more than 40 years. She has an MAE from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and has taught K-12 Visual Arts in Colorado and Massachusetts. She retired as an instructor in the Art Education department of the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she taught watercolor and mentored pre-service art education students. Marian discovered watercolor in 1988 while studying with Jane A’Lee Heyerdahl at Cape Cod Community College. The love of the medium continues to challenge and inspire her. Her passion lies in painting the light and atmosphere of the coastal areas of Cape Cod and Cape Ann. She has studied with Cheng Khee Chee, John Salminen, Dale Latinen, Andy Evansen and Tom Hoffman. She is a member of the Falmouth Art center, the South Cape Artists, the Barnstable Plein Air Painters and a juried artist member of both the Cape Cod Art Association and the Rockport Art Association. Recently Marian has moved part time to the north shore where she looks forward to connecting with local artists and art associations.

Join us for a special storytime Friday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at the library, featuring the recently released title <a href="https://library.clamsnet.org/Record/632101?searchId=38337185&amp;recordIndex=7&amp;page=1&amp;referred=resultIndex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Outermost Mouse </a>by Cape author <a href="https://laurenwolk.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Lauren Wolk</a> (illustrated by Kristen Adam), followed by a book signing and sale in partnership with <a href="https://www.eightcousins.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Eight Cousins Bookstore</a>.&nbsp;This event was rescheduled from June 19.
The Outermost Mouse loves her life at the tip of the beach. She has blue sky above and sand as warm and soft as her mother below. Best of all is the house, a huge nest she has made her own. There are jam-jar posies, lanterns full of gold, and a clock that tick-tocks her to sleep at night. But a storm is coming. When the sky goes dark and a cold wind rises, the little mouse must do everything she can to protect her home. Even though she’s small enough to fit into a teacup, the Outermost Mouse is smart, strong, and brave—and ready to face the wild waves.

Lauren Wolk is best known for her novels, including the New York Times bestselling novel Wolf Hollow, which won a 2017 Newbery Honor, the 2016 New England Book Award, a 2017 Jane Addams Honor, the 2018 Massachusetts Book Award, and other honors. Lauren’s latest novel, Candle Island, published in 2025, was a finalist for the New England Book Award.
Additionally, Lauren is a visual artist represented by the Larkin Gallery (Provincetown and Harwich Port), and an award-winning poet and filmmaker. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod recently named Lauren 2026 Artist of the Year, along with her InkLines Project co-founder Jackie Reeves. Wolk was also awarded a 2026 Creative Individuals grant by the MA Cultural Council. The Outermost Mouse is her first children’s picture book, with two more picture books in progress.

The Outermost Mouse – Special Storytime with Author Lauren Wolk

Join us for an evening with Jonathan Harley, a former <a href="https://www.chapoquoityachtclub.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Chapoquoit Yacht Club</a> commodore—the youngest ever—and the former head of the US Olympic Sailing Team for 25 years when his teams won 29 medals. This event is Friday, August 28 at 5 p.m. Free and open to all.
On this evening, the last in our summer speaker series co-hosted by the library and CYC, Harley will recount an early adventure at sea: his 366-day trip in 1972 from New Bedford to Tahiti and back aboard the 50′ ketch Diogenes. Harley’s photographs of Tahiti and the Galapagos pre-date the boom in tourism and bring to life his experiences on the high seas.
Harley has served as head coach of sailing teams at numerous schools, colleges and yacht clubs, including Providence College, Portsmouth Abbey School and Duxbury Yacht Club, among others. He headed for seven years the sailing training program at the Mystic Seaport Museum. He spent his early years teaching sailing at CYC on Chapoquoit Island, where his family has had a home for decades. He has served several stints running the CYC sailing program.

Saramaria lives here in Falmouth with her family.

Hiroya Tsukamoto is a Japanese-born fingerstyle guitarist who moved to the United States in 2000 to attend the Berklee College of Music. Needless to say, he’s not only a dizzyingly agile fingerpicker, but a soulful and transcendent performer, with compositions that combine instrumental guitar work with lyrical performance and spoken stories from his life.
Tsukamoto has been recognized for his talents on stages such as at Blue Note in New York City, Japanese National Television (NHK), International Storytelling Center and United Nations, and by scoring second place at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship both in 2018 and 2022.

On Saturday, August 22nd, one of Cape Cod's best antiques show and sales will be held at the Cape Cod Academy, in the Founders Gym, in Osterville, MA. Word of this event has spread and it is now one of the most eagerly-awaited, antiques events on Cape Cod. Thirty-one exhibitors from six states will be displaying and selling a wide variety of quality antiques in the newly redone and air-conditioned Founders Gym. This year the show will host exhibitors specializing in 18th &amp; 19th country furniture and Americana, fine antique china and glass, Oriental porcelains, antique and estate jewelry, silver, paintings and prints, decoys, primitives and folk art, antique linens, Oriental rugs, used and rare books, garden and decorative antiques, and much more. We expect that his show will be mobbed with antiques lovers, decorators, and collectors. There will also be a food truck, The Filling Station, there for your lunch and snack needs. Show hours are 10 to 3. &nbsp;Adult admission is $10.00, but if you bring in a copy of this listing, you get $1.00 off the admission. Children are free when accompanied by their parents.
