Renowned Palestinian activist Iyad Burnat shares the latest from the occupied West Bank, including community responses to escalating settler violence and expanding illegal settlements. Iyad Burnat was born and raised in the Palestinian village of Bil’in in the West Bank. He leads the Bil’in Popular Committee against the Wall, which since 2005 has mounted weekly nonviolent direct action against apartheid. He is also head of Friends of Freedom and Justice in Bil’in, a pro-Palestinian organization with the stated aims of building a “wide network of people from all over the globe who support Freedom and Justice for all.”
Iyad’s brother Emad Burnat made the award-winning documentary “5 Broken Cameras,” which screens July 5, 2026, at 11:15 am at the Community Church.

Since 2006 a Community Peacemaker Team (CPT) has worked in Iraqi Kurdistan alongside Kurdish farmers and shepherds impacted by cross-border bombings and international companies' operations, civil society activist and minority groups facing discrimination and violence, and non-violent initiatives to build peace and respect for individual and communal rights.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
CPT is an international violence-reduction and human rights organization. They offer an organized, nonviolent alternative to war and other forms of lethal inter-group conflict and provide organizational support to persons committed to nonviolent alternatives in situations where violence is an immediate reality or is supported by public policy. They accompany communities affected by violence and oppression, document human rights violations and advocate for nonviolent solutions.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Kamaran Osman is a Kurdish human rights defender and member of Community Peacemaker Teams–Iraqi Kurdistan (CPT-IK), known for documenting the civilian impact of Turkish and Iranian cross-border military operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Through field visits to remote border communities, he records civilian casualties, displacement, and human rights violations affecting villagers and farmers. In December 2024, he accepted the Human Rights Tulip Award in The Hague on behalf of CPT-IK, recognizing the organization's commitment to nonviolent resistance and civilian protection. Osman has also represented CPT in northeastern Syria, documenting human rights abuses against Kurdish communities during periods of military escalation. His work connects affected communities with the international community, ensuring that violations are documented and victims' voices are heard.

Peace & Justice Conversations: Peacemaker Teams in Iraqi Kurdistan 

West Street Ward House

On Sunday, July 19, at 6:30 pm, storyteller Andy Davis will be performing at the West Street Ward House in Concord. The event is a fundraiser for New Hampshire Peace Action and is one of 20 performances Davis is doing through New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts this summer, ranging from Burlington to Provincetown, getting to all of them by bicycle, on two tours totaling 24 days and 900 miles.
Doors will open at 5:30 for a potluck dinner. We’ll provide the plates, napkins and silverware, you bring a dish to share!
Andy will be telling “Reaching for the Moon: Stories About Bending the Arc of the Moral Universe,” a set of social justice stories, including historical tales, personal stories and a bit of folklore, about maintaining hope and standing up for what’s right in the most difficult of times.
There is a suggested donation of $15 at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please RSVP so we can get an accurate count.
Please note that there is only on-street parking at West Street Ward House. If possible, please carpool!
