The MHS celebrates the publication of New England Biography Series founder Susan Ware’s latest book. Speaking Louder Than I Can delivers inspiring portraits of path-breaking American women along with Ware’s reflections on the origins and lasting power of feminist biography. Ware’s previous books include biographies of Billie Jean King, Amelia Earhart, and Molly Dewson, as well as a group biography of American suffragists, Why They Marched. Historian Claire Potter, author of the widely acclaimed substack Political Junkie and a forthcoming biography of Susan Brownmiller, joins Ware in a far-ranging conversation about women in history, women’s history, and why, as Ware writes, “all biography should be feminist biography.”

As AI tools revolutionize information organization and retrieval, Bunk (www.bunkhistory.org), a decade-long ongoing project to curate and index contemporary public history writing, also needs to change. We will share our explorations in AI to automate and enhance our existing indexing practices, and our questions as we consider the capabilities LLMs offer. Do we even need taxonomy and indexing anymore? If so, what purpose could it have that complements or challenges the approaches to description and organization available through LLMs? If not, how might we rethink the roles of humans and machines in the work of humanities projects and archival institutions?

Massachusetts faced a severe sugar shortage in late 1917, with nearly a quarter of retail stores reporting empty shelves. Herbert Hoover later blamed a straightforward collision of demand and supply shocks. This paper argues instead that the shortage was a failure of imperial governance. The "American field" was no unitary national market but an imperial patchwork stitching the beet-producing West, Louisiana, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Using the records of the US Food Administration, I show how federal price policy, set with the "Sugar Trust," antagonized primary producers across the field, recovering the imperial infrastructure that civilian consumption both depended on and obscured.

We invite teachers to join us in Mâseepee (Mashpee, MA) for a K-12 teacher workshop on the history and legacy of the War for the Dawnland (also known as King Philip's War). This workshop will be led by Brad Lopes, Aquinnah Wampanoag scholar and Director of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Education Department, and MHS Education. Together, we will explore the war's causes; strategies Indigenous and colonial communities employed during the war; and consequences of the war on Native nations with a focus on Wampanoag communities.
Drawing on the MHS primary source set, War for the Dawnland: Reimagining King Philip’s War, we will closely analyze primary and secondary sources to better understand late 17th century Wampanoag perspectives and how and why these communities worked to protect their homelands and resist settler colonialism. We will consider the lasting impacts of the war and the ways in which they have resonated over time, and into the present day. We will also share strategies to teach vocabulary and ways to look at primary sources that center Indigenous perspectives.
This program is open to all who work with K-12 students. Upon completion of the workshop and assignments, teachers can earn 10 PDPs. Please email us with any questions at education@masshist.org.
MHS Education, with Brad Lopes, will be offering this same workshop in different locations around the state. All workshop participants will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one or small group feedback and instructional coaching from Brad Lopes after the workshop.

Gillette Stadium

(Foxborough, MA / October 6, 2026) – Tickets are now officially on-sale from the recent announcement by the SMX League® of the complete 2027 Monster Energy SMX World Championship regular season schedule, comprised of the 17-race Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and the 11-race Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. The world’s best two-wheel racers converge on Gillette Stadium in Foxborough for Round 12 on April 3, 2027.

Fans can sign up for preferred access or make ticket purchases online at SupercrossLIVE.com.

The 17-race Supercross schedule will once again visit 16 cities spanning 13 different states from early January to mid-May, from West Coast staples like California, Arizona, and Washington, to Midwest and East Coast stalwarts like Texas, Florida, and Indiana. The 2027 schedule will also see the addition of two new destinations, with the sport’s first visits to the famed Alamodome in San Antonio and M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The championship will also make anticipated returns to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The 56th season of the Pro Motocross Championship will maintain its iconic slate of celebrated Nationals, featuring the most storied venues in all off-road motorcycle racing. The 11-race campaign will consist of 22 grueling motos and will travel to 10 different states over the course of the summer. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Monster Energy SMX World Championship Playoffs & Final will host three postseason rounds following Labor Day weekend; those cities and venues will be announced in January.
After an offseason that will bring one of the most significant amounts of change in recent memory with many new faces in different places, the biggest and most high-profile athletes in the sport will line up on the starting gate to kick off the regular season inside the hallowed grounds of Southern California’s Angel Stadium for the Anaheim Opener in January. The premier 450SMX Class will be led by reigning Supercross Champion Ken Roczen, who will be joined by fellow champions with Jason Anderson, Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton, Cooper Webb and newly crowned SMX World Champion Jorge Prado. This decorated group will be complemented by an impressive contingent of challengers, spearheaded by last season’s runner-up Hunter Lawrence, as well as Justin Barcia, Aaron Plessinger, and Malcolm Stewart, all of whom are former Main Event winners. It will also signify the rookie campaign for rising star Haiden Deegan.
While the 250SMX Class field will ultimately be divided into Eastern and Western Divisional Championships for Supercross, the smaller displacement is brimming with ascending talent and budding superstars, with defending Eastern Divisional Champion Cole Davies at the top of that list. Additionally, the likes of Max Anstie, Julien Beaumer, Pierce Brown, Seth Hammaker, Chance Hymas, Cameron McAdoo, Jo Shimoda, Nate Thrasher, and newly crowned SMX World Champion Levi Kitchen are all former Main Event winners expected to challenge for their first title, regardless of which division they line up for.
Davies will remain the rider to beat for the Pro Motocross campaign, where he’ll look to defend his crown against former championship runners-up in Kitchen and Shimoda and former winners like Beaumer, Hammaker, and Hymas.
The 2027 SMX regular season will also welcome the highly anticipated U.S. debut of Belgian twins Lucas and Sacha Coenen. The siblings have become two of the sport’s most rapidly rising stars in MXGP and if their guest appearances in the Pro Motocross Championship this past summer are any indication, they’ll be instant title contenders. Lucas will compete in the 450SMX Class, while Sacha will race in the 250SMX Class, already with a win to his credit from Southwick in June.
The always popular FanFest will be scheduled for all Supercross rounds where the expansive outside footprint features unprecedented access to the sport’s biggest stars with an up-close and intimate view of their racing machines and team rigs. As the name implies, FanFest is a festival for the fans and has become a major part of the Supercross experience where fans can jump back and forth between the paddock and the stadium to also watch practice and qualifying.

We invite teachers to join us in West Tisbury on Nôepe (Martha’s Vineyard) for a K-12 teacher workshop on the history and legacy of the War for the Dawnland (also known as King Philip's War).
