Home — the place where you were held, and where you return to begin again. With The Good News Suite, Johnnie Cruise Mercer draws on his upbringing in the Black Baptist church to create a work rooted in memory, ritual, and shared experience. Inspired by Bible scriptures passed down through childhood, these choreographies are crafted to guide communities through grief, and toward the possibility of release.
No two performances are the same. The Good News Suite shifts in response to each space and the people who gather there, taking shape as both performance and communal experience. At 92NY, Mercer premieres The Unforced Rhythms of Grace, a captivating new ensemble work for Black movement and vocal artists, grounded in contemporary gospel music and built from deeply embodied testimony, rhythm, and collective energy. Each night will feature guest artists from across New York’s Black dance community.
Mercer also shares a new version of his ever-evolving solo work, Mercies of a Butterfly.
A former 92NY Harkness Artist in Residence and 2022 Mainstage Artist, Mercer returns home to the stage where so many of the great artists of American modern dance found a sense of belonging while they expanded what dance can hold, and who it is for. The experiences he creates are immersive and shared, erasing the borders between the performers and audiences; experiences Dance Enthusiast describes as “tenderly moving and immensely rewarding … leaving the theater feeling full, and above all, revived.”

Seussical™ – Theatre Young Audiences is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

With Ken Auletta, Madeline Cuomo, Steven Cohen, and Teddy Kunhardt. What does principled political leadership look like — and what can it teach us today?
Join us for a screening of Mario, a moving new documentary that explores the life and legacy of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, followed by a conversation with journalist Ken Auletta, Madeline Cuomo,&nbsp;Steven Cohen, and filmmaker Teddy Kunhardt.
Directed by the Emmy Award-winning team of George, Peter, and Teddy Kunhardt and set against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan’s America, Mario traces Mario Cuomo’s journey from the son of Italian immigrants to the New York governor who championed government as a force for compassion. Bringing together archival footage, reflections from his family, and excerpts from his personal diaries, the film portrays a leader shaped by humility, intellect, and the struggles of his parents’ generation. From his early legal advocacy on behalf of working-class families to his years as governor to the soaring rhetoric that captured the imagination of Americans far beyond New York, Cuomo championed the idea that government could be a force for justice, opportunity, and compassion.
Following the screening, the filmmakers join Cuomo’s friends and family for a panel discussion about the man behind the public figure, the ideals that animated his leadership, and his lasting influence on New York.

World-renowned historian Simon Schama, author of The Story of the Jews, joins Rabbi David Ingber for a conversation about his new essay, Jew-Hatred: The Latest Edition. Published by The Jewish Quarterly, it is a concise, powerful overview of the evolution of anti-Jewish prejudice from the ancient world to the present day, revealing how old myths and accusations continue to shape contemporary society.
For thousands of years, as society embraced new ideas and discoveries — including the birth of Christianity and Islam, the enlightenment, the rise of nationalism and globalism, and great leaps of technology — the Jewish people served as a dark mirror on which fears, anxieties and hatreds have been reflected. Why? In his crucial and unflinching new book, Schama examines the forces that have enabled this old hatred to surface, adapt and thrive, even in the age of liberal democracy. With his characteristic blend of clarity, erudition and curiosity, Schama looks at the recurring beliefs and imagery that have coursed through the variants of antisemitism, including the latest outbreaks since the October 7 attacks and the war in Gaza.
At a moment when antisemitism is once again commanding global attention, this timely conversation offers historical perspective, moral clarity, and an opportunity to better understand one of humanity’s most enduring and troubling phenomena. Together, Schama and Ingber discuss consider not only what history teaches us about antisemitism, but also what Jewish resilience, creativity, and moral courage can teach us about confronting it.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a time to support survivors, remember those lost to abuse, and help communities recognize violence that too often happens behind closed doors. Silent Voices United Inc.’s ReadQuest Book Fair brings this message to Harlem: Love should never hurt. Support survivors. You are not alone.
This month, we are shining a light on older adults. Domestic violence does not end at retirement age. Abuse by a spouse or intimate partner may continue for decades or begin later in life. Seniors may also experience abuse, neglect, or exploitation by adult children, relatives, caregivers, or others they trust.
Abuse is not always visible. It can include physical or sexual violence, threats, humiliation, isolation, withholding essential care, or controlling someone’s money. No older adult should have to exchange their safety, dignity, or independence for companionship or care.
The numbers show why awareness matters.
• The CDC estimates that about 1 in 10 older adults living at home experience abuse, including neglect and exploitation. (<a href="https://cdc.gov/elder-abuse/about/index.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">cdc.gov</a>)
• The New York State Office for the Aging estimates that 300,000 older New Yorkers are victimized annually by elder abuse. (<a href="https://aging.ny.gov/programs/elder-abuse?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">aging.ny.gov</a>)
• In a June 2025 awareness announcement, New York State officials cited an estimate that only about 1 in 24 elder abuse cases is reported to adult protective services or law enforcement. (<a href="https://aging.ny.gov/news/nysofa-promotes-resources-prevent-identify-and-report-elder-abuse?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">aging.ny.gov</a>)
These figures describe elder abuse broadly; they are not statistics solely about violence by a spouse or intimate partner. They nevertheless reveal how many older adults may be suffering without their communities knowing.
Older survivors can face difficult barriers to seeking help. They may depend on an abusive partner for housing, income, transportation, or daily care. Fear of homelessness, isolation, or losing essential support can make leaving especially complicated. Shame and pressure to keep family matters private may also keep survivors silent. The National Domestic Violence Hotline emphasizes that abuse can begin or persist in later life—and that help remains available. (<a href="https://www.thehotline.org/resources/domestic-abuse-in-older-adults/?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">thehotline.org</a>)
Awareness should lead to compassionate action. Listen without judgment, respect an older person’s choices, and help them connect with appropriate support. The CDC encourages community members to check in on isolated seniors and learn to recognize signs of abuse. (<a href="https://cdc.gov/elder-abuse/about/index.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">cdc.gov</a>)

See the history and hear the stories of the many lives and transformations of this beautiful Manhattan neighborhood.
We will spend two hours exploring the historic neighborhood of Turtle Bay. From the site of the original bay and why it was named for Turtles, we will see how the area transitioned from bucolic Loyalist farms to a smelly industrial center to a gentrified swanky home of celebrities to the international center it is today.
The tour covers about 1.7 miles of walking and covers an area from East 47th Street to East 54th Street between the East River and Third Avenue. I will point out a variety of celebrity homes, street murals, and historic sites.

Zankel Hall

Experience a remarkable musical rediscovery at Carnegie Hall.
On Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 PM, Jason Tramm and the MidAtlantic Philharmonic Orchestra present the world premiere of Teodor Doré’s new orchestration of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Suite in D Minor.
Composed in 1891 while Rachmaninoff was a student at the Moscow Conservatory, the Suite survives through a piano manuscript; its original orchestral score remains missing. Doré’s new orchestration, created with the endorsement of the Rachmaninoff family, offers a rare opportunity to hear this early work brought to life by a full orchestra.
Presented by Renaissance-21, the evening celebrates the movement’s American launch with a program combining classical favorites and contemporary premieres, including Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rachmaninoff’s beloved Vocalise.
Tramm returns for his third Carnegie Hall performance, joined by guest conductor Olsi Qinami and an international roster of featured artists.
Join us for an evening of musical discovery in Zankel Hall.
Thursday, November 12, 2026 | 7:30 PM Carnegie Hall — Zankel Hall 881 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019
